This course explores the impact of disrupted lymphatic pathways resulting from cancer treatments such as radiation, surgery, and lymph node removal. Discussions will focus on understanding the onset of lymphedema and techniques for navigating alternate lymphatic routes.
Key topics include methods for managing soft tissue edema in patients recovering from breast, ovarian, prostate, and other cancers. Juul (“Julie”) Bruin, MA, RN, LMBT brings a rare and deeply integrated perspective to the healthcare field, with over four decades of experience spanning both traditional and holistic modalities. A native of the Netherlands, she began her career as a psychiatric and hospice nurse before relocating to the United States, where she graduated from the Body Therapy Institute and became a North Carolina Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist (#630).
In 2001, Juul trained at the original Dr. Vodder School in Walchsee, Austria, under the guidance of Hildegard Wittlinger, a close colleague of Dr. Emil Vodder who co-developed modern lymphedema treatment and carried forward the clinical foundations of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD). Training within this direct lineage profoundly shaped Juul’s clinical practice, teaching philosophy, and reverence for this highly specialized therapy. This strong clinical lineage instilled in her a deep responsibility to preserve the integrity, precision, and therapeutic depth of Manual Lymph Drainage. In her classes, Juul emphasizes both technical accuracy and embodied sensitivity, ensuring that students understand not only the “how,” but the “why” behind each technique.
She became a LANA Certified Lymphedema Therapist in 2001 and is also credentialed in the First Line Therapy modality as an integrative health coach through the Functional Medicine Institute. Juul holds a Master’s degree in Holistic Health from the American Institute of Holistic Theology.
Juul is passionate about health promotion and enjoys sharing her 35-year journey in integrative wellness, guiding fellow massage therapists toward a more enriching, balanced, and sustainable professional and personal life.

This advanced Lymph Massage course is open to participants who have not taken the first course, Lymph Massage: Protocol for Detoxification and Minor Pathologies. However, it provides the essential foundation that makes it easier to understand and integrate the more advanced concepts and techniques. That said, many participants are successful in the advanced course without the prerequisite, provided they are comfortable with a faster pace and a greater volume of new material.
This three day training is being held at Blueberry Gardens in the beautiful rolling pasture land between Baltimore and DC. It is located in Montgomery County and a convenient location for many whether you are commuting locally or traveling for this training. Directions can be found here. For those needing overnight accommodations, most hotel chains and Airbnb accommodations within a 10-15 minute drive of Blueberry Gardens.
