FAQ’s
What is breathwork?
The breath is the most accurate and instantaneous mirror for how we feel, think and live. By consciously connecting with the breath through a safe and gentle process, we are updating these feelings, thoughts and physical sensations to live with more happiness, ease and pleasure in life. Think of it as a re-boot to your body, mind and spirit when the “system” is sluggish or not functioning optimally.
The benefits of breathwork can include: more clarity, reduced anxiety and depression, increased stress-resilience, increased energy, feelings of more ease and flow in life, decreased physical pain, heightened insight, awakened presence, expanded sense of connection with self and others.
What is sound healing?
Everything in the universe is in a constant state of vibration, including every bone, tissue, organ and cell in our body. When we are in a state of sound health, all of our body parts are vibrating harmoniously at their optimal or resonant frequency. When our vibration is not in sync with our optimal frequency we can feel out of sorts, imbalanced and depleted. Shamanic sound healing can help bring your vibration back into resonance, thus allowing you to enjoy a state of relaxation, reduced anxiety and tension, and a boost to the immune system
Where is Casa El Encuentro and how do I get there?
Casa El Encuentro is located 30 minutes outside of Oaxaca city center in southern Mexico. You will fly into Oaxaca International Airport (OAX), where you will be picked up and shuttled to the retreat center. We have found very reasonable flights for these February dates from the US beginning around $500-600 roundtrip from many US cities. Please register for the retreat first prior to booking your flight to ensure space in the retreat. We will let you know when we meet the minimum number of participants to hold the retreat.
What is the all-inclusive pricing?

Can I room with my partner or friend? If I’m traveling alone and would like double accommodations, will you match me with a roommate?
If you are traveling with a friend or partner and would like to share a room with them please let us know when you register. If you are traveling alone, please register for a single or a triple.
Can I bring someone who is not attending the retreat?
Yes we have a limited number of non-attendee companion spots available at this retreat center. The rate is $1699 all-inclusive for someone who is sharing a room with you but not attending the group retreat sessions. Due to Casa El Encuentro being a small retreat center we are not able to offer a discount for someone not attending the retreat like we do at other retreat locations. The price includes all meals, shared accommodations with you, a one-day tour and round-trip ground transportation to and from OAX. Casa El Encuentro is 30 minutes from Oaxaca City for activities and will require a taxi (about $15 each way). Please be in touch with us to check on availability.
Is it safe to travel to Mexico?
Just like any place, it’s best to use common sense for your safety when traveling. Oaxaca is known as one of the most peaceful centers in all of Mexico, where for centuries the different indigenous cultures have always had peaceful co-existence. Your facilitators, Tracey and Sharon lived in Mexico from 2015-2020 in a small mountain town just south of Guadalajara. They have traveled Mexico widely and experience nothing but kindness, generosity and a culture of family and connection. If you have any questions or concerns about safety, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Will there be time in the schedule for excursions or spa services?
Yes, we have deliberately created a spacious schedule that allows ample time to rest or to enjoy other excursions or massage/healing services in between retreat sessions. There will be a full day, plus two half days where you will have personal time to enjoy the pool and gardens at Casa El Encuentro or explore the local area.
A retreat offers you a precious opportunity to slow down and tune in to the rhythms of the natural environment and it is important to strike the right balance between stimulation and quiet reflection.
Should I extend my trip?
We highly encourage coming in a few days early or staying after the retreat to enjoy all that this part of southern Mexico has to offer. Just 30 minutes from the retreat center, Oaxaca City is a lovely town to explore. Staying in town prior to or after the retreat is a nice way to experience the culture with it’s vibrant markets, excellent restaurants and artisan shopping. Past participants have stayed at AirBnb’s or at a small local hotels. The closest beach is about 5 hours away by car/bus or a very short flight to Puerto Escondido.
What should I bring?
You will receive a detailed welcome email from the facilitators after registering with a downloadable PDF document of recommended items to bring, passport information, air travel recommendations and more.
I am a massage therapist – can I receive continuing education hours for this retreat?
Yes. Breath, Body & Sound is NCBMTB Approved and massage therapists will receive 21 CE hours. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the retreat electronically to submit to your state licensing board or for recertification with the NCBTMB.
For massage therapists:
Breath is a significant part of a massage therapy session however isn’t part of the basic education in massage therapy training. Many therapists don’t know how to effectively work with the breath or educate their clients on how to breathe without chronic muscular constriction or holding patterns. We bring the breath to the center of attention and focus the awareness on breathing more effectively. This is a highly experiential training and open to anyone interested in the transformative nature of the breath. Massage therapists receive CE’s.
Do you have payment plans available?
Yes. Once you register, we will send you an electronic invoice that gives you the option to set up your own payment plan. A second $500 deposit will be due 6 months prior to the retreat on August 1, 2023. Final payment is due on November 1, 2023.
