This three-day Bodywork for Depression and Anxiety residential training and retreat is being held at Heartwood Retreat Center situated on 80+ acres in Blue Ridge, GA – a highly biodiverse region of the country.

Course description:

Depression and anxiety has become an epidemic in our society with more people than ever seeking relief through both conventional and alternative methods. Trauma, loss, and the everyday challenges of daily life can create constriction and loss of connection in the physical and emotional body. From these big and small traumas, our body begins to form in a way that sets in fatigue, exhaustion, distress, difficulty focusing, irritability and physical pain.

The physical toll of depression and anxiety reveals itself in the body through tension, pain, misalignment and discomfort. In this course you will learn specific hands-on massage techniques that unwind targeted areas of the body that have been contracted, bringing more flow and movement into the structure. We will look at the science behind depression and anxiety, what is happening in the brain as well as the importance of understanding conventional treatments. We will explore emotional anatomy, including how the body is shaped by our thoughts, feelings and beliefs, and discuss how mindfulness practices can help free us from negative thought patterns. We will incorporate movement and grounding body-centered practices can help support a distressed emotional body system.

You will learn simple body-centered practices to help people feel more alive, connected and embodied through breath, bioenergetics, massage and compassionate presence. Through these embodied practices you will discover the body’s innate ability to recalibrate, reset and restore to its natural flow, beyond depression and anxiety.

This hands-on and highly experiential class is intended for the bodywork practitioner to support clients in the healing of depression and anxiety however, this training is open to everyone interested in empowering massage and bodywork tools to help feel more vital in everyday life.



What are the accommodations like?

Accommodations are shared either with someone you know or if traveling alone, we pair you with a same-gendered roommate.   Bathrooms are also shared.  Two single accommodations available (FULL).  Accommodations pricing with meals is listed below.

Two nights (arrival on Wednesday morning)

Double accommodations (two twin beds), $390 per person

Three nights (arrival on Tuesday afternoon)
Single accommodations (two available), $580 per person SOLD OUT
Double accommodations (two twin beds), $475 per person

What meals are included?

For those staying two nights, meals begin with lunch on Wednesday and end with lunch on Friday.  For those staying three nights, meals begin with dinner on Tuesday and end with lunch on Friday.  The Heartwood chefs provide you with a farm-to-table experience that is delicious, nutritious, and utilizes fresh, organic produce.  If you have any serious food restrictions, allergies or dietary needs, please let your facilitators know in advance.

Can I commute to the training?

We highly recommend taking advantage of this retreat location by staying onsite, particularly if you live more than 30 minutes from Heartwood Retreat Center.  There is a $55 daily facility fee, including lunch each day, for commuters.

Will there be time in the schedule for rest, hiking or massage therapy services?

The training runs from 9:30am-5:00pm each day.  Early mornings and evenings will be available for personal time.  For those of you who would like to extend your retreat experience, you may wish to arrive a day early.

Can I arrive a day early to extend the retreat?

Yes. You have the option to add Tuesday night to this training during the registration process.  We highly recommended you arrive on Tuesday night if you live more than 30 minutes from Blue Ridge, GA since class begins promptly at 9:30am on Wednesday.  The extra night price includes dinner on Tuesday night (before the training starts) and breakfast on Wednesday.

I’m a massage therapist – can I receive continuing education hours for this training and retreat?

Bodywork for Depression & Anxiety is NCBMTB Approved and massage therapists will receive 18 CE hours (Georgia massage therapists:  this training will meet your requirement for hands-on CE’s).   You will receive a certificate of completion electronically to submit to your state licensing board or for recertification with the NCBTMB. If you are a licensed massage therapist in the State of Georgia – please read important details here about your continuing education credit.

What should I bring?

We need one massage table for every two people attending. You will receive a welcome email after registering with a list of what to bring. This email arrives within 24-48 hours of your registration.  If you didn’t receive it, please check your spam box and add the email to your contacts.

Heartwood Retreat Center is located 8 miles outside of the town of Blue Ridge, GA and is 1.5 hours from  Atlanta and Chattanooga and 2.75 hours from Asheville, NC.  The address is: 84 Eagles Pass, Blue Ridge, GA
